Great News from School Nutrition!

We are very pleased to announce that Lien Elementary has been selected to participate in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) for the 2011-2012 school year.  This program is made available through the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 (the Farm Bill), and amended the Richard B. Russell NSLP by adding Section 19 the FFVP.

The FFVP will provide ALL children at Lien Elementary with a variety of FREE fresh fruits and vegetable at least three times per week.

The goal of the FFVP is to:

     1.  Expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience

     2.  Increase children’s fruit and vegetable consumption

     3.  Make a difference in children’s diets to impact their present and future health.

The FFVP introduces school children to a variety of foods that they otherwise might not have had the opportunity to sample.
