AIM students are empowered to be responsible, engaged citizens through multiple real-world leadership opportunities. These include showcase events to present their learning, community field studies, and overnight field trips.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Where is AIM located?
In the Intermediate school. It is a school within a school!
What is project based learning?
Project Based Learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by investigating and responding to questions, problems, and challenges and then presenting their findings through a final product that is made public beyond the classroom.
Why use project based learning (PBL)?
It is an effective and enjoyable way to learn with a focus on how to learn and how to solve problems.
Who will do best in AIM?
- Students who enjoy hands-on projects.
- Students who want to explore topics in-depth.
- Students who enjoy using a wide variety of technology tools.
- Students who appreciate choice and input in their learning.
- Students who thrive in an active learning environment.
Why have a multiage classroom?
- Student goals are designed around competencies, not grade levels
- Children develop a sense of family with their classmates
- Older children have the opportunity to serve as mentors and to take leadership roles
- Children are more likely to cooperate than to compete
- Older children model more sophisticated approaches to problem solving and younger children are able to accomplish tasks they could not do without the assistance of older children
How will students be assessed?
Teaching advisors carefully consider several pieces of student evidence to determine grades. This evidence includes a collection of work over time, daily written or oral tasks, application of skills, and periodic assessments (quizzes, tests, performance tasks).
AIM’s report card is a standards-based report card. This grading system shows how well students are meeting the learning goals for their grade as determined by our state’s standards. AIM students are required to take the same school benchmarking and state tests that their peers take.
How often will AIM students see their grade level peers in the traditional school?
AIM students will have one recess per day with their grade level friends. They will also continue to go to band and recorder.
Is it available for all students in grades 3-5?
Yes. Each year there are openings for grade 3 and a limited number of openings for grades 4 and 5.
