I. The Classroom Portion of Driver Education

Classroom Driver Education in Amery is offered only during the summer months.  Deadline to sign up is March 31, 2025.

Students who will be 14 years old by June 1, 2025 are eligible to take Amery classroom Driver Education in the summer of 2025.  Pre-registration is required.  First come, first served for class choice.  Students who have a history of poor school attendance, behavior problems, or poor effort in class will not be allowed to take the course in Amery.  Driver education is a perk offered by Amery Schools, not a right.

All requirements of the State of Wisconsin are taught in the course.  After successful completion, students are eligible to get their permit as long as they are at least 15 years old.  Driver Education is required for all people under the age of 18 years who wish to obtain a Wisconsin Driver’s License.

FEE - NEW in 2025

A $55.00 non-refundable fee is now required to sign up for the Amery classroom portion of Driver Education.  Upon completion of the class, $50.00 will be deducted from your $250.00 Permit/Behind-the-Wheel fee (see below).

Rules:

1. Students must attend at the dates and times allotted.  Attendance at separate classes cannot be mixed and matched.
2. There are 15 scheduled class days.  A student can only miss up to 1.5 days and still pass the course.
3. A tardy counts as .5 of a day unless it is longer than 1 hour.  More than 1 hour late constitutes as a full day.
4. A student can be removed from the class at any time by the Driver Ed instructor or administration for disruptive behavior, illegal activities such as smoking or vaping, or any other unacceptable behaviors.  Once again, Driver Education is a perk offered by Amery Schools, not a right.

There will be 4 classes taught in the summer of 2025 in Amery:

• Online registration opened Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at 8am and will close at the end of the day Monday, March 31, 2025.

• Before registering for a class, please check your schedule for band, summer school, summer weightlifting, summer camps, work, etc.

• Register online through Amery Community Education

II. Getting Your Permit: Step-By-Step

1. Students must be 15 years old AND have passed the classroom portion AND the permit test given in Amery's Driver Education.  If the course was taken elsewhere, the permit test must still be taken with Mr. Meyer.
2. About a week before turning 15, bring cash or check to the high school office.  Checks should be made out to the School District of Amery. 
   • $200.00 if you already paid $55.00 and completed the School District of Amery classroom portion of Driver Ed
   • $250.00 if you did not pay the $55.00 fee (see above) and/or did not complete the classroom portion of Driver Ed in Amery
3. You will receive a payment receipt from the office that you must deliver to Mr. Meyer during Warrior Time. 
4. Mr. Meyer will give you the Mv3001 form.
5. Complete the top part of the Mv3001 form before you go to the DMV.
6. Bring the following to the DMV: 
   • Certified Birth Certificate
   • Social Security Number and Card
   • $35.00
   • Mv3001 form
7. As soon as possible, start driving with parents or a sponsor.  Students should have at least 10 hours of driving with a parent or sponsor before Behind-the-Wheel training.

8. Your first Behind-the-Wheel lesson must be conducted within 60 days of the date signed on MV3001.

9. Students who do not enroll in Behind-the-Wheel within 13 months of completing their classroom portion will have to complete a 10-hour refresher.

III. Behind-The-Wheel Training

1. Find your driving partner. This should be someone who has a similar birthday as yours.
2. With your driving partner, visit Mr. Meyer during Warrior Time to reserve drive times. Do not procrastinate. If you wait too long, you will not have time to complete your required drive times before you turn 16. Reserve your drive times as soon as possible once you have your permit.
3. When you get your permit, start driving right away with your parents or sponsor. Students should have at least 10 hours of driving with a parent or sponsor before Behind-the-Wheel training.
4. Confirm your scheduled driving with your partner at least a week before and again the day of to make sure he/she will attend.  Do not forget to do this! Students are responsible for notifying their partner AND instructor if they cannot make a scheduled drive time.
